about us

The Leg Ulcer Forum was established in 1993 by a group of nurses with an interest and expertise in the management of patients with leg ulcers, following the development of the first national university-based leg ulcer course. Since then, the Forum has gone from strength to strength and is directed by a dedicated executive comprising of specialist practitioners and educationalists involved in current clinical and education practice.

The Forum is proud to work with a number of other affiliated and national groups such LUF Scotland; LUF Northern Ireland; the Legs Matter Campaign (the LUF was a founding coalition member); the National Wound Care Strategy Programme (NWCSP), as well as with key links in Wales involved in the promotion of evidence-based practice throughout the UK, for the benefit of patients with leg ulcers and associated lower limb conditions.

The Leg Ulcer Forum (LUF, England  and Wales) has and continues to be involved in developing relevant national and international standards / guidance and the production of a number of peer reviewed publications focusing on the management and care of patients with leg ulcers and associated lower limb conditions.

The LUF (England and Wales) are proactive stakeholders in the work of the NWCSP and are proud to be a cooperating organisation of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA). The forum itself produces a range of  educational leaflets aimed at both patients and staff to help them promote best practice through evidenced based care. The LUF (England and Wales) facilitates a number of virtual educational events throughout the year, in addition to its annual ‘in person’ conference (usually held in March);  produces an annual LUF Journal and produces the content on this website and a range of other educational materials, as well as facilitating  national networking opportunities for both specialist practitioners and those new to the subject of leg ulcer management. Please do explore our website for the online resources we offer.

Please also consider becoming a member of the LUF (England and Wales) – if you are not already one and help further the work of the LUF (England and Wales).

Join the Leg Ulcer Forum
from only £20 per year.

Annual membership will entitle you to free entry to all Leg Ulcer Forum Events, the latest copy of our annual journal, and all other educational resources. You will receive contact information for local support.

If you are passionate about the management of your patients with a leg ulcer(s) and any other associated lower limb conditions they may have, you may also wish to consider becoming an active member of the executive committee – a group of very enthusiastic healthcare professionals. If so, in the first instance please submit an expression of interest via the LUF Administrator (contact us).

The LUF (England and Wales) is a registered charity, and we rely on the executives who volunteer their time and the ongoing support of our sponsors. Please support our sponsors when you can, as they are integral to the further development of the Forum and their support enables us to run educational events and our conference at no cost to the attendees and produce a journal, other publications and educational resources.
