Sam originally grew up in Hong Kong; following a few job experiences, became a Dental nurse, she soon realised that direct patient care was the path to pursue and was eager to learn more. With much thought in year 2000 she moved to England to commence her Nurse training at the Florence Nightingale Institute of Nursing at Kings College University in London.
Sam worked as a general nurse rotating from acute medicine to surgery for a few years, although she enjoyed this experience she did not feel the excitement in these areas. Sam then moved in to community nursing, working in an extremely dynamic team who delivered exceptional wound care. This was when Sam’s passion for wound care transpired. After some time in community nursing; gaining experience in managing many complex patients, Sam knew wound care was what really enthused her and that she could make a difference in patients’ lives.
For the last 10 years Sam has worked in the community setting as the lead Clinical Nurse Specialist. Sam runs a Nurse-Led service that is multifaceted, it includes wound care for leg ulcer management, pressure ulcers, and negative pressure wound therapy and any non-healing wound care advice. She creates wound care policies and guidelines based on national guidelines; delivers education on wound care, Doppler assessments and compression bandaging. Sam also supports in the development of skills and competencies for clinical staff. In addition she is the subject matter expert in any adverse incidents relating to wounds involving patient safety.
Sam has a specialist interest in Leg wounds, has introduced the leg club in her area with a new club which started up this year. In addition she works within the local vascular leg clinics with a variety of multidisciplinary specialists including vascular surgeons, vascular nurses and podiatrists.
Sam is always thriving to provide better and improve on wound care provisions. After applying to join the Leg Ulcer Forum (LUF) as an executive in early 2023, she was welcomed to the team and is thrilled to be part of such a wonderful group of experts.
